The Alberta Hate Crimes Committee works at fostering an environment where Albertans are living in an inclusive, safe, caring and respectful hate-free community. There are very few groups that provide profession and credible training around hate crime issues nationally and globally but members of the AHCC have been certified to deliver training in communities, police services, the justice system and other interested organizations.
Community Responses to Hate Crime and Incidents
1:00 – 4:00 P.M. (Half day workshop) in Room #224

across the country. This workshop will take participants through a process of understanding the historical foundations and impacts of hate, to gaining awareness and knowledge about the
legislation around hate crime, and providing strategies and tools on how to respond to hate at a
Understanding and Responding to Hate Crimes and Incidents
5:30 – 7:30 P.M. (Community Awareness Session) in McGrane Theatre
In this session participants will learn about:
- The role, history and work of the Alberta Hate Crimes Committee
- The definition, causes, and impact of hate crimes and hate incidents
- Supporting legislation and the Criminal Code of Canada
- What you can do to support victims of hate crimes and hate incidents
- What rights you have as victims of crime
There will be a Q&A period after presentation.
